The Not So Small Print

Let's be sensible. I won't blind you with pages of terms and conditions. Here are just a few things I like to mention because they're useful to know before we start working together.

Confidentiality: I'll keep your cards close to my chest! I will never discuss your business with anyone else. If you like, I'll sign a Confidentiality Agreement... just ask.

Deposits: I'll ask you to pay a deposit before I start.

Payments: I'll invoice you once the job's completed or, if it's an ongoing project, at the end of each week. I invoice on a seven day basis and, being a freelancer, I really appreciate prompt payment.

Payment methods: I accept a wide variety of payment methods - just ask for details.

VAT: I am VAT registered.

Sole Trader status: I operate as a sole trader so I'm responsible for my own tax and National Insurance contributions.

Proof reading and editing: I always check my work very carefully. But it is ultimately your responsibility to double check for accuracy before you sign a project off. Where proofing is concerned, two heads are always better than one!

Document safety: Please use a secure postal method. I can't take responsibility for stuff that gets lost in the post. As far as online security is concerned, I have anti virus software - and I'll assume that you do too!

Insurance: I have professional indemnity (PI) insurance.

My place or yours? I work from my own well-equipped home office, and I'm also happy to work from your place when needed. Insurance restrictions mean I can't accept business visitors at my home office, but my customers are happy to meet me at a local coffee shop as necessary!

Retainer Packages: I'll ask you to complete your 5 hour retainer taster within 60 days. Once you've agreed a retainer package, you should take care to use up all your hours each month - I can't carry them over.
