Avoid karma biting you on the bum... be honest about your size!

Some businesses owners like to make life very complicated for themselves

A fellow virtual assistant tells terrible tales of woe about finding herself embroiled in a completely mad situation, giving virtual assistance to a business that was hell bent on looking like something it wasn’t.

Remember the film ‘The Wizard of Oz?’ The wizard wasn’t big and scary and all-powerful. He turned out to be a little bloke hiding behind a curtain, shouting into a microphone. [more...]

About me – Much more than a virtual assistant

Who am I?

I'm Lisa Reynolds, a VA with a difference. A virtual assistant will take the pressure off your business life by tackling the everyday stuff you don't have the time or inclination to do. I can do that. But I'll also do a great deal more. I'm different from the VA herd.

Years of business experience mean I'm perfectly qualified to provide  in-depth input into a wide variety of business-critical projects to help your small company thrive. [more...]

Years of business experience mean I'm perfectly qualified to provide in-depth input into a wide variety of business-critical projects to help your small company thrive. Stuff like website critiques, competitor research, business MOTs, project management and financials.

What are my strengths?

There's no point beating about the bush. I call a spade a spade. So you get honest feedback and genuine input that's designed to make your business work better, even if you don't necessarily like what I say.

I'm a workaholic and if your project has a business-led time limit I'll pull out all the stops to make sure you get it on time. I've been known to stay up until the small hours at the CMS coalface, getting a client's new web content in place over the weekend. I know it isn't healthy. I guess I should practice what I preach – a sensible work/life balance. But my OCD works to your benefit!

So does my obsession with organisation and admin. I know from experience that a lean, efficient business generates better profits and is easier to grow than an inefficient, slow one. With my help we'll beat your systems, processes and procedures into shape so you'll be on a winning streak.

I'm an ideas machine too. My clients say I have a good eye for spotting new opportunities. And I think 'outside the box' naturally (how I hate that saying!).

What are my weaknesses?

Weaknesses? I'm perfect!

Not really. A mild case of ocd means I'm a stickler for getting things right. And I tend to give away a lot more time and information for free than I intend to, in the interests of perfection. Great for my customers, slightly less great for me. But at least I get the satisfaction of knowing the job's been well done. Very well done.

What do I do?

You name it. I'll take on anything your small business can throw at me, from simple administrative stuff to sticky issues that need solving. We can strip your business back to the bare bones and rebuild it better. I'll help you turn your website from a boring online brochure site to something fully functional and commercially powerful. I'll sort out your expenses. I'll tackle any number of marketing and SEO focused projects. Whatever you want, it's worth running it past me.

Where I'm based

I'm based in Brighton & Hove, UK, and my clients are mostly local. But I'm equally happy working remotely  by email and 'phone, wherever you are in the UK.

What do I do in my spare time?

Ha. What spare time? When I get a moment to relax I'm interested in English history and I'm fascinated by serial killers. I'm an avid reader of thrillers, especially the thrillingly grisly Jeffrey Deaver. And Alan Bennett never fails to crack me up. And I like learning crafts. Creativity gives my logical side a break and I've recently toyed with hand made soaps (a failure) and hand crafted candles, which were a success. I'm planning more creative adventures in 2011. Assuming I'll have the time to squeeze any in!

Successful New Year resolutions for businesses

What are your New Year's Resolutions?

New Year is an excellent time to throw out the old and celebrate the new. The perfect excuse to ditch bad business habits and make a clean sweep. An ideal opportunity to turn the page and start the new year as you mean to go on. So why do so many New Year resolutions fail? Because they involve giving things up... which is dismal at the best of times, never mind in the depths of winter when you need all the cheering up you can get. [more...]
